Doncaster freight terminal heads winning innovations

There have been many recent assertions that the railway industry is ineffective at innovating.Attendees at the 22nd annual Railway Industry Innovation Awards event held on 28 June saw plenty of evidence to the contrary, with a strong and varied field of entries across seven categories

The guest of honour and keynote speaker was Professor Clive Roberts from the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education at the University of Birmingham, while Modern Railways Industry and Technology Editor Roger Ford returned as compere. A top prize was awarded in each category for best in class, with Highly Commended certificates for the other shortlisted entries.

IPORT TAKES MAJOR PROJECT AWARD

The headline Railway Industry Innovation Award is the Major Project prize. The judges aim to award this to a project that looms large on the national scene but that also displays commendable innovation.
