DERBY ROLLING STOCK SHOW GROWS IN POPULARITY

OVER 1,000 people attended the one-day Modern Railways RVE event in Derby on 4 October. Now in its sixth year, the UK’s only dedicated rolling stock event has grown with each iteration and the 2018 show was the busiest yet.

As Modern Railways ‘Pan Up’ columnist Ian Walmsley commented as he introduced the Modern Railways RVE conference, while the show does not have the scale of an event like InnoTrans, every exhibitor is a relevant supplier to the UK rolling stock market, making the show essential for companies and individuals involved in any aspect of the supply chain.

The 2018 show, held at the Derby Arena, in the rail industry’s Midlands heartland, saw 57 companies exhibiting. The range of exhibitors covered all facets of the rolling stock market – from major players such as the event’s Platinum Sponsor Porterbrook Leasing and consultancy firm Ricardo Rail to suppliers of all manner of components, interiors and key systems.

Exhibitors showcasing specific products included Yellow Rail with its new RaiLathe, designed to be a mobile option to deliver wheel-turning and first showcased at InnoTrans in Berlin just two weeks earlier. Birley Manufacturing displaye…
