This category recognises innovations which do not necessarily grab the headlines but are still very worthy of recognition. The three shortlisted entries are introduced by category sponsor Houghton International:
- Aluminium Contact Wire – Furrer+Frey’s work with industry partners to pioneer the use of an aluminium contact wire as part of electrification of the Severn Tunnel
- Timetable Modelling System – Greater Anglia’s use of Trueline software to develop reliable and resilient timetables
- AIVR – the Automated Intelligent Video Review platform from One Big Circle, which uses train-borne devices to capture video from operational vehicles
