As a result, operators can now gather comprehensive and reliable data about their infrastructure. They are so precisely aware of the condition of the rail network that they can plan ahead and only initiate required measures based on the actual track condition. They neither need to work to rigid timetables, nor operate according to the ‘scattershot’ principle or have to make ad hoc decisions when faced with unexpected situations.
