D-train for Wales: on 8 April the first of 5x3-car Class 230 battery-diesel hybrid sets supplied by Vivarail for Transport for Wales began testing on the Cotswold line, near to Vivarail’s Long Marston base. There is no date yet for their entry into service on the Wrexham to Bidston route; the ‘230s’ will operate solely on this line, with two units required to provide the hourly service initially until frequency on the line is doubled to half-hourly in December 2021, when four units will be needed each day. This is No 230006 at Evesham on its first day out on test.
