Trackwatch

A digest of the main changes on Network Rail, London Underground and Northern Ireland Railways infrastructure during October 2020; compiled by Martyn Brailsford of the Branch Line Society (www.branchline.uk)

A mixed bag, with a bit of everything this month. Along with the usual platform extensions and level crossing closures, major projects such as Werrington Junction dive-under and remodelling in the Twickenham area continue to progress. Whilst projects like Feltham depot access lines and the new Kintore station are coming to fruition, others like Bristol East Junction remodelling are just starting.

LONDON NORTH EASTERN

Skegness (2:26D) The loco release crossover between platforms 4 and 5 has been recovered and plain lined. It is also noted that Carriage Siding 3 (furthest from the running line) has been lifted, and platforms 6 and 7 are out of use. Between Peterborough and Spalding (2:16A) Further work as part of the Werrington grade separation scheme has taken place at Glinton Junction (80M 40ch), with two more trailing turnouts installed in the Down Spalding at 80M 34ch and 80M 47ch, these forming the leads onto the future Up Werrington and from Down Werrington dive-under lines. Between Norton-on-Tees East and West Junction (2:44C) Catch points on the Up line at Norton-on-Tees East Junction (0M 05ch) and on the Down line at Norton-on-Tees West Junction (0M 27ch) have both been recovered and plain lined. Middlesbrough area (2:47B) A sleeper has been chained across the access line to deny access to the former BSC Coke line and by association the former Stockton Haulage line at Whitehouse Junction (15M 76ch). This is in preparation for their proposed disconnection and removal as part of the project to renew and transfer signalling to York ROC.
