ASLEF announces further strike on 13 August

Drivers’ union ASLEF has announced a one-day strike at nine train operators on 13 August, with members at Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry voting overwhelmingly to take strike action.

The strike, which follows one on 30 July, is being called after ASLEF claimed train operators failed to make a suitable pay offer. On Avanti West Coast, 92.6% of votes were in favour of strikes with a turnout of 90.5%. For CrossCountry, on an identical turnout, 93.2% of votes were in favour of strikes.

Further ballots close at Chiltern, Northern and TransPennine Express on 25 August, and on East Midlands Railway on 19 September.

The strike on 30 July affects Arriva Rail London, Greater Anglia, Great Western Railway, Hull Trains, LNER, Southeastern and West Midlands Trains.
