ASLEF drivers to strike on 15 September

Third round of strikes in pay dispute

ASLEF drivers at 12 train operating companies are to stage another walkout over pay on 15 September.

Drivers previously struck on 30 July and 13 August, and members at Avanti West Coast, Chiltern, CrossCountry, Greater Anglia, Great Western Railway, Hull Trains, LNER, London Overground, Northern, Southeastern, TransPennine Express and West Midlands Trains are involved in the latest action.

The union’s General Secretary, Mick Whelan, expressed regret about inconveniencing passengers, but said train operators ‘have forced our hand’. He claimed the companies are ‘making big profits and paying their chief executives enormous salaries and bonuses’ and said the union wants them to make a ‘proper’ pay offer to help members keep pace with inflation.

Negotiations are taking place between ASLEF and Direct Rail Services and Transport for Wales Rail, while a pay offer from Colas has been put to members.

The latest ASLEF strike will take place on 15 September, including Northern drivers. On 29 August 2022, Northern 195009/023 await departure from Chester with the 14.22 to Leeds.
