Now it’s three: TSSA members join rail strikes

Members of the TSSA union are to take industrial action on 18/20 August in a dispute over pay and job security.

Strikes will take place on Avanti West Coast, c2c, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, Great Western Railway and Southeastern. TSSA members also voted for action short of strikes on Greater Anglia, Northern, TransPennine Express and West Midlands Trains, although members are being re-balloted on strike action on these four operators.

The TSSA says it has ‘held off’ on serving notice on industrial action in Network Rail in order to hold ‘11th hour talks over pay, job security and conditions’ but adds there is still time to serve notice for action on 18/20 August.

Station, operational, maintenance, supervisory and management staff will take part in the action, which was announced on 25 July, just before RMT members across 14 train operators and Network Rail were due to walk out on 27 July.

The TSSA’s strikes are happening at the same time as further RMT strikes planned in August. Members of drivers’ union ASLEF are due to strike on Arriva Rail London, Chiltern, Greater Anglia, Great Western, Hull Trains, LNER, Southeastern and West Midlands Trains on 30 July. Drivers on Greater Anglia struck on 23 July, while those on Hull Trains were on strike on 16 and 23 July.
