ON 22 March the world’s biggest rolling stock manufacturer, CRRC of China, announced that it had won its first order from the UK, agreeing to supply 71 wagons for London Underground. These wagons will be in service in 2019. They will be used to carry materials, such as track panels and bulk materials, used for LU maintenance work. ‘The new wagons will provide a major boost to our track renewal and maintenance programmes,’ said Ash Nanu, an LU project manager. ‘For the first time, we will have wagons designed specifically for our use and the environment within which we have to operate.’
