PHIL SPENCER outlines a strategy for the south west section of Crossrail 2 that could simplify operations and improve resilience
AN ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION FOR SOUTH WEST LONDON
In the autumn of 2015 Transport for London (TfL) and Network Rail (NR) consulted on the emerging Crossrail 2 proposals. In this consultation it was proposed that up to 30 trains per hour (tph) could operate through the central area.
In the south west not all of the central area trains would operate over the surface lines, some terminating and reversing at Wimbledon. Up to 20tph would continue beyond Wimbledon, with a minimum Crossrail 2 service frequency of 4tph serving the Network Rail lines to Shepperton, Hampton Court, Chessington South and Epsom.
It is envisaged that Crossrail 2 would be the only service on the Hampton Court and Chessington South branches. South West Trains would continue to operate services to Dorking and Guildford via Epsom, Kingston loop services, and to Shepperton via Richmond.
