Derby has been at the heart of the UK rail network going back almost 180 years, when the North Midlands and Birmingham and Derby Junction Railways arrived in the 1830s. The iconic Derby Roundhouse, the first of its kind, still stands next to the station as a constant reminder of the city’s proud heritage from that time.
