GAUGE CLEARANCE ON HUMBERSIDE

Rail Freight

NETWORK RAIL has begun work to provide W12 gauge clearance on the route between Immingham and Killingholme and Doncaster. While high cube containers can be accommodated on the Immingham to Doncaster routes, this currently requires low-loor wagons, which are costlier to operate and maintain and which are in limited supply.

The work, to be carried out by Amco, will involve 29 interventions, including platforms alterations at stations, trackside changes and the replacement of three bridges, and will allow high cube containers to be accommodated on standard wagons. The £15 million project sees NR partnering with the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and North Lincolnshire Council, following an in-principle funding allocation of £7.2 million for the Humber LEP’s Local Growth Fund.
