Scottish Transport Minister Jenny Gilruth officially opened the new Inverness Airport station on 2 February, ahead of revenue services starting on the following day.

The station is the biggest component of a £42 million programme which has involved construction of a 950-metre-long passing loop, renewal of 4.3 miles of track and installation of signalling. An active travel path links the station with the nearby airport terminal.
The station has a footbridge with lifts, 64 car parking spaces with 10 electric chargers, plus a new footbridge west of the station which enabled the closure of two level crossings.
