J Murphy scoops Beaulieu Park station deal

Network Rail has awarded the first of two contracts to build a new station at Beaulieu Park, Chelmsford, to J Murphy & Sons.

The £37.8 million deal includes earthworks, civil engineering, track and signalling alterations and setup of site welfare facilities to enable main construction of the station later.

The second contract for the new station itself is expected to be awarded later this year. The station will have three platforms with a central loop line and new tracks to allow fast trains to pass through the station. It will also have accessible toilets, retail/catering space, ticketing facilities, 500 cycle and 700 car parking spaces, bus interchange and dedicated taxi bays.

J Murphy & Sons has already started work on the site compound: main construction is expected to start later this year, with opening due by the end of 2025. It will be managed by Greater Anglia.
