Merseyrail is to run an eight-trains-per-hour service for the Grand National 2024 festival on 11-13 April.

The 7.5-minute frequency timetable will run between Liverpool city centre and Aintree from 11.00 to 13.00 before the races start and from around 16.30 to 20.30 after the races. A 15-minute frequency timetable will run at other times.

Timetables elsewhere on the network will be amended to release trains for the service, with Aughton Park and Town Green on the Ormskirk line reduced to a 30-minute service. On the Headbolt Lane line, when the high-frequency service is running to Aintree, passengers will have to change at Sandhills for Rice Lane, Fazakerley, Kirkby and Headbolt Lane.
