FOLLOWING THE announcement of the UK’s Government’s roadmap out of lockdown, preparations are accelerating for Modern Railways RVE 2021 to take place as planned at Derby Arena on Thursday 4 November. The Modern Railways Fourth Friday Club’s Rail in the Midlands conference will this year be held at the show, bringing together two leading brands within the Modern Railways portfolio.
The Rail in the Midlands conference was established as part of the Fourth Friday Club’s events programme in 2018 and was last held in Derby in November 2019. Combining the two events means Modern Railways RVE visitors will have access to an industry-leading conference programme, while Fourth Friday Club attendees will be able to visit the Modern Railways RVE exhibition, in addition to the conference and networking opportunities.
We already have an excellent speaker line-up confirmed for the Modern Railways RVE Rail in the Midlands conference. Confirmed speakers include:
■ Tim Shoveller – Managing Director, North West and Central Region, Network Rail;
■ Will Rogers – Managing Director, East Midlands Railway;
■ Julian Edwards – Managing Director, West Midlands Trains;
■ Sarah Spink – Strategic Partnership Lead, Midlands Connect;
■ Karl Watts – Chief Executive Officer, Rail Operations (UK) Ltd;
■ Chris Swan – Head of Rail, Tarmac.

Modern Railways RVE will continue to be centred on the exhibition, supported by the conference and the industry-leading RVE Meet The Buyer event organised by Rail Forum Midlands. RVE Meet The Buyer was held virtually in 2020 to great acclaim but will return to Derby Arena as an in-person event for the 2021 show. Further details about plans for the exhibition and RVE Meet The Buyer will be announced soon.
Details about plans for the other Fourth Friday Club events this year will be confirmed in the spring.
