ROTHERHAM TERMINAL DISPUTE RESOLVED

THE OFFICE of Rail and Road reports it has successfully resolved a dispute about access to Rotherham steel terminal.

The regulator reports it received a complaint from ‘a rail freight transport customer’ about plans for its eviction from the terminal. ORR says it has liaised with site operator DB Cargo along with GB Railfreight, which also runs trains from the site. It reports that the resulting ‘constructive engagement’ has led to ‘a future plan for the depot which will both protect competition for container transport, and balance the needs of other users of the site’.

In a letter to ORR’s Head of Competition Tom Lee, DBC CEO Hans-Georg Werner states the discussions have resulted in a ‘new development proposal’ that the company is now seeking to implement with key rail freight stakeholders at the site. He adds that the company has ‘taken on board valuable feedback from the ORR’s assessment of both arrangements at Rotherham and DBC’s own internal processes and controls’.
