New Liverpool container service

DB CARGO has partnered with Peel Ports to launch a new rail service for containers via the Port of Liverpool. The service, which began on 8 May, will initially run on three days a week, comprising up to 30 wagons and over 40 containers per trip. Goods loaded at Liverpool will be transferred to the terminal at Mossend near

Glasgow before onward delivery to destinations across Scotland. Return services to Liverpool will carry goods for export. DBC says Scottish company Walkers Shortbread will be one of the first customers, exporting 700 containers a year to America, while Kinross-shire based potato producer Cygnet PG has also committed to the new service. The outward services depart Liverpool on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, with return workings from Mossend on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
