New name for Sussex CRP

THE SUSSEX Community Rail Partnership has changed its name to the Southeast Communities Rail Partnership, reflecting that the organisation has outgrown its original title.

GatEx stock on the Arun Valley: an interesting working that has unusually brought red liveried Gatwick Express Class 387/2 stock to the Arun Valley line is the 12-car Monday to Friday train 1C93, the 17.12 London Bridge to Chichester commuter service. The train slows for its stop at Arundel on the early evening of 7 August 2020, formed of Nos 387227/201/224. On reaching its destination the stock then runs empty to Hove Yard.

The CRP’s Chair Tim Barkley explained: ‘We started with lines to Uckfield and East Grinstead, then added the Marshlink between Hastings and Ashford, so even then we had expanded beyond Sussex. We’ve since added the Arun Valley, the North Downs, Seaford to Brighton, Tonbridge to Reigate, and Sussex coast. So although we are still firmly rooted in Sussex, we also cover lines in Kent, Surrey and Berkshire.’

Mr Barkley added that the organisation didn’t want a complete rebrand so has instead tweaked its name so it can retain the same initials while better reflecting the geography it serves. The work of the SCRP was featured in our June issue (p58).
