Full services on the East Coast main line between Newcastle and Edinburgh have been restored following the completion of repairs to Plessey viaduct near Morpeth.

Damage to the parapet wall was found during track renewals on the 170-year-old structure in October, with bidirectional working imposed on one of the two tracks. Engineers have since installed pre-cast concrete units on the viaduct and installed steel underpinning to the parapets. 200 metres of new track were also laid on the structure during the work.
