Rail projects win levelling up funding

Cardiff, Devon and Cornwall amongst winners

A series of rail projects have won funding from the second round of the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.

Successful projects include £50 million for a new direct Newquay-Truro-Falmouth Docks service, Cardiff Crossrail which will run between Cardiff Bay and Cardiff Central, £13.5 million for a new parkway station on the eastern edge of Okehampton and an upgrade of Barton on Humber station.

Just over £14 million will be spent on doubling the frequency of trains to Belmont, while at Lincoln two bridges will be built over the railway to ease road congestion.

A total of £2.1 billion was awarded to 111 areas, and the Government says there will be a further round of the Levelling Up fund.
