Ribblehead viaduct repairs completed

Network Rail has completed extensive repairs to seven of Ribblehead viaduct’s 24 arches just as lockdown restrictions in England are being eased – and in anticipation of high visitor numbers in Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Additional repairs to cracked blockwork on the viaduct were undertaken during the planned work, which started in November 2020. Masonry, drainage, and repainting work was undertaken on the Settle & Carlisle line’s Grade II listed signature structure. In a technological first for NR, laser and drone surveys were undertaken on the structure, providing a more complete record of its condition.
