Seeking the cure for cracks

In response to reader feedback, this month’s New Train TINwatch table highlights fleets with improved Miles per Technical Incident Moving Annual Average (MTIN MAA) in green. The improvements are not mediated, so some are three or even four figures up on last month, while some are in the low tens of miles, but 60% of the new fleets have shown some improvement.

Arriva Rail London’s Alstom Class 710/3 fleet has stormed to the top of the table with a faultless performance from six units, boosting the MTIN MAA above the promotion level of 20,000. I hope Alstom won’t mind, but I’ll keep them in the table for a few more periods to see if this performance can be sustained.

CLASS 80X UPDATE

When you get down to page 435 of Agility Trains East’s Master Availability & Reliability Agreement (MARA) for the LNER Intercity Express Programme (IEP) Fleet, you find yourself at Schedule 6, which covers ‘Expiry, events of default, termination and force majeure’. Part A of Schedule 6 covers ‘Remedial Plans and Other Secretary of State Remedies’. And Section 1 of Part A Schedule 6 covers ‘Remedial plans’, which is what the operators of Hitachi Class 80x units are waiting for.
