The Rail Sector Deal is the partnership between Government and the rail industry and is the opportunity to transform the railway through digitalisation, enhanced customer experiences and sustainable business models.
The main goal is to have government and industry delivering a co-ordinated approach, transforming the delivery of the modern railway, driving productivity and delivering a more reliable network for both operators and passengers.
We continue to see a great amount of investment of public and private funding in the rail industry, and the Sector Deal provides a great framework to transform rail collectively.
The Sector Deal is being delivered through a number of workstreams, each headed by industry champions. I was delighted to be asked to lead a workstream that will deliver pilot programmes to connect businesses and people in the Midlands to new opportunities to grow and develop. Our local industry representative group, Rail Forum Midlands, is the delivery organisation for this work and is busy working with a large number of stakeholders on the work programmes.
