Crossrail Update

The rapprochement between Heathrow Airport Ltd and Crossrail planners since the track access issue was resolved (p95, last month) is bearing fruit. Elizabeth Line trains are to serve Terminal 5. Crossrail plans have long envisaged trains serving what is now the Heathrow Central stop and terminating at or starting from the Terminal 4 station. This meant that T5, the home of British Airways, would not have been served by the new cross-London route.

Heathrow Airport Ltd now says that from December 2019, when the full Crossrail service is scheduled to be operational, six Elizabeth Line trains an hour will serve Heathrow in each direction with four starting/terminating at Terminal 4 and two starting/ terminating at Heathrow Terminal 5.

The arrangement has been agreed by Heathrow, Transport for London and the Department for Transport. Together with Piccadilly Line services and four Heathrow Express trains an hour to Heathrow, services to the airport will increase from 18 per hour at present to at least 22 by the end of 2019.
