TSSA announces September strike

Workers on nine TOCs and NR to walk out

The TSSA union has announced a further 24-hour strike on 26/27 September involving members at nine train operators and Network Rail in the ongoing dispute over pay, job security and conditions.

The strike will start at midday on 26 September and will affect General Grades and Controllers at Avanti West Coast, c2c, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, Great Western Railway, LNER, Network Rail, TransPennine Express, Southesastern and West Midlands Trains.

It will coincide with the Labour Party conference being held in Liverpool, and has been called despite talks continuing between the TSSA and Network Rail and the train operators.

General Secretary Manuel Cortes accused Transport Secretary Grant Shapps of ‘stopping’ train operators from ‘making a revised, meaningful offer’.

He added: ‘Frankly, he either sits across the negotiating table with our union or gets out of the way to allow railway bosses to freely negotiate with us, as they have done in the past.’

The TSSA says the ‘gap’ towards a resolution between its members and Network Rail is narrowing.
