Reaching the halfway point in our announcement of Golden Whistles winners, today we are pleased to announce the winners in the Freight category.
As we have been unable to hold a traditional Golden Whistles event, we are instead announcing the winners virtually. Over the past two days we have already announced the winners of the awards for passenger operators and for Irish Rail. We are grateful to the Institution of Railway Operators for providing assistance and support to the Whistles, and for the support of our sponsors Tracsis and Porterbrook.
The freight awards are based on the A2F (Arrivals to Fifteen) measure used within the sector. The 2021 winners, based on performance to Period 9 of 2020-21, are:
Gold Whistle (best performance) – Direct Rail Services;
Silver Whistles (most improved performance) – GB Railfreight.
Tomorrow we will announce the winners in the delay minutes categories, covering passenger and freight operators and Network Rail Routes. On Friday morning we are holding a webinar at which Network Rail Chief Executive Andrew Haines will speak, following which the winners in the Outstanding Operator categories will be revealed.
