WAGONS ADRIFT

Critical point: services on Southeastern were severely disrupted after a train carrying sand derailed on a junction at Lewisham on 24 January 2017. More than 50 metres of railway were destroyed in the incident, along with part of the junction. Two wagons derailed and around 30 tonnes of sand had to be removed by hand. The disruption lasted for several days while Network Rail restored the track. Courtesy Network Rail
